Spatternatz is a science fiction adventure series inspired by the short film “Spatternatz” written & directed by my friend Kyle in 2010.
In the original film, Spatternatz were evil bionic soldiers created to hunt down and destroy any humans that survived the nuclear apocalypse. The titular character was a Spatternat with the designation “9776.”
While I had worked with Kyle on dozens of films during that time period, Spatternatz was a project I wasn’t around for. But the story and characters were so cool, and I wanted a chance to play around in that little universe, so I recently asked Kyle for his blessing to create a new Spatternatz movie. He gave me the go ahead… as long as I gave him merchandising rights, because “that’s where all the money is.”
That’s Kyle for ya.
My updated version of Spatternatz deviates significantly from the original. The first film took place on Earth after nukes had wiped out most of the planet. While this new film acknowledges the nuclear destruction of Earth and the creation of the Spatternatz, they are no longer bionic soldiers created to kill human survivors- they were created to battle evil aliens from outer space.
This new space adventure draws heavy influences from some of my favorite sci-fi stories of all time: James Cameron’s film Aliens, Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft, and of course Bungie’s Halo: Combat Evolved.
I plan to extend this story into a mini-series, maybe 6-10 episodes in length. The first 3 episodes have already been filmed, with episodes 2 & 3 currently in post production. Kyle has also jumped on board and started writing Episode 4, where he’ll possibly be joining in to play some new characters as well.
Previously, Kyle portrayed a few soldiers who got beat up by the 50-Foot Gorilla in “Raid of the 50-Foot Gorilla.” You can watch that here: https://youtu.be/Ekz5C2Lw-tc?t=3262
Keep an eye out for new episodes as they’re posted.
